De Paseo por el Viejo San Juan..... Part 2!!

     Linda tarde, muchos turistas, una bella bahía  un crucero, caminar agarrados de la mano, el atardecer a un lado, la luna saliendo al otro, 1 año y 8 meses juntos.... una historia que apenas comienza.... Si, nuevamente de paseo por el "Viejo San Juan" esta vez desde mas temprano con la cámara en mi mano derecha y mi amada en la izquierda.

De Paseo por el Viejo San Juan

     Nuevamente llego el fin de semana y, como ya es de costumbre, mi novia y yo no sabíamos que hacer para entretenernos un rato y salir de la rutina. Para donde ir? Si me preguntan a mi, "El Viejo San Juan" es un destino al que se puede ir vez tras vez sin dejar de ser un lugar interesante y lleno de entretenimiento. Esta vez fuimos de noche, luego de caminar varias horas dentro de "Plaza Las Américas" y llegamos hambrientos.  Y ya teníamos el menú en nuestras mentes desde antes de llegar; unos "Hot Dogs" de un carrito que siempre esta en los muelles. Aunque llegamos con hambre, decidimos ir a caminar un poco por el "Paseo de la Princesa" y llegar hasta un pequeño muelle de madera que queda frente a la Puerta de San Juan, algo que ya es una tradición nuestra cada vez que vamos a San Juan. Al llegar al muelle, decidí sacar la cámara y experimentar un poco con tomas de larga exposición y ver que resultados obtenía pero adivinen que..... la batería de la cámara estaba agotada!!! Aun así, con el poco de carga que tenia, pude tomar algunas fotografías y jugar un poquito con el muelle, el cielo y una de las garitas mientras usaba largas exposiciones y aperturas cerradas (esperaba obtener un cielo estrellado pero debido a la cantidad de luz que había en los alrededores no lo logre). Con todo y la frustración de no tener carga suficiente en la batería para tomar varias fotografías  pude conseguir una que otra toma que llamo mi atención mas que todo por el hecho de que los resultados no fueron tan mal como yo esperaba debido a hacerlo todo a la prisa, sin pensarlo mucho y sin trípode. Esto me hizo sentir que, aunque no lo note, he aprendido a ser mejor fotógrafo con la practica y el estudio de la fotografía y que poco a poco me voy desempeñando mejor y mas fluido esto que tanto me apasiona. La practica hace la perfección, nunca lo olviden! ;)

     Another weekend came  and, as is usual, my girlfriend and I did not knew what to do to entertain us for a while and get away from the ordinary and the rutine. Where to go? If you ask me, "Old San Juan" is a destination you can go again and again and it still be an interesting place full of entertainment. This time we went at night, after walking several hours in "Plaza Las Americas", and arrive hungry. And we already had in our minds the menu before arriving; some hot dogs of a cart that is always on the docks. Although we got there hungry, we decided to go for a walk by the "Paseo de la Princesa" and reach a small wooden dock that faces the "Puerta de San Juan", something that has become a tradition for us every time we go to San Juan. Upon arrival at the dock, I decided to take the camera out and experiment a bit with long exposure shots and see what results I could obtain but guess what ..... the camera battery was exhausted! Still, with little charge on the baterry, I was able to take some pictures and play a little with the dock, the sky and one of the booths that lay on top of the wall while using long exposures and small apertures (I expected to get a starry sky, but because of the amount of light in the surroundings I didn't manage to get it). With all the frustration of not having enough charge in the battery to take several pictures, I manage to some shots that caught my attention, most of all by the fact that the results were not as bad as I expected them to be because of all the hurry, the running against time and baterry, and the lack of a tripod. This made me feel that, although I don't notice it, I've learned to be a better photographer with the practice and study of photography and that little by little, I'm getting better and faster with the camara, and better in something that I love so much. Practice makes perfection, never forget that! ;)

Lo Mejor de los Dos Mundos!

     El ser humano siempre esta buscando lo mejor para el. Esta en su naturaleza siempre buscar lo que es considerado mejor y no conformarse con menos. Hace unos días salí, cámara en mano, a dar una vuelta en el pueblo de Mayagüez y posiblemente fotografiar el atardecer por la costa y obviamente, estaba buscando lo mejor, el mejor lugar para la mejor foto y valla que me encontré con lo mejor!! El atardecer con la luna de compañera.... Lo mejor de los dos mundos!

     The human being is always looking for the best. Is in his nature to always seek for what is considered the best and not settle for less. A few days ago I went out, camera in hand, to take a walk in the town of Mayagüez and possibly photograph the sunset along the coast. Obviously I was looking for the best; the best place for the best picture and heck yeah I found the best! ! The sunset with the moon as his companion.... The best of both worlds!

De Geocaching en Fajardo!

     Hace unas semanas atrás  mi novia y yo salimos a pasear y a practicar otro de nuestros hobbies favoritos: El Geocaching! Para los que no conocen de este juego/pasatiempo, es bastante sencillo aunque como todo juego tiene sus reglas que hay que conocer. El Geocaching trata de una búsqueda de "tesoros" utilizando unas coordenadas de la localización del "tesoro" a través de un GPS y pistas que te brinda el dueño del "tesoro" y que te ayudaran en la búsqueda del mismo. Dentro de un "tesoro" o cache (su nombre dentro del juego) se encuentra un log (una hoja donde todo el que logra encontrar el cache deja su firma y la fecha de cuando lo encontró) ademas de otros regalos que las personas dejan dentro de ellos para que otros que llegan hasta el puedan tomarlos no sin antes dejar otra cosa a cambio (de ahí el termino "tesoro"). Pero la verdadera diversión en el Geocaching no es lo que encuentres dentro del cache, sino la búsqueda de este, la aventura que comienza tan pronto decides ir a "geocachear" y que no necesariamente termina cuando por fin encuentras ese cache que tanto buscaste, sino que continua cuando sigues disfrutando de ese lugar nuevo que conociste! Y es que el Geocaching te puede llevar a sitios maravilloso y verdaderamente increíbles. Lugares que quizás muchas veces haz visto o haz pasado cerca, pero nunca le haz prestado la atención suficiente como para ver lo increíbles que realmente son.      A few weeks ago my girlfriend and I went out to practice another of our favorite hobbies: Geocaching! For those unfamiliar with this game / hobby, it's pretty straightfoward though, as with every game, it has rules that must be known before-hand. Geocaching is a search for "treasures" using coordinates of the location of the "treasure" through a GPS and using hints tha the owner of the "treasure" gives you and that will help in finding it. Within a "treasure" or cache (ingame name) is a log (a sheet where anyone who manages to find the cache leaves his signature and the date that found it) besides other gifts that people left inside of them so that others can come and take them but not before leaving something else in return (hence the term "treasure"). But the real fun in Geocaching is not what you find in the cache, but the finding itself. The adventure begins as soon you decide to go to geocaching and it does not necessarily ends when you finally find the cache that you were searching fo, but it continues when you keep enjoying of this new place you discovered with the help of this cache! And is that Geocaching can take you to wonderful and truly amazing places. Places that you may have visit before, but had never paid enough attention to it to see how amazing they really were. As a small prove of this, I have some pictures I manage to take in a day of Geocaching with my beloved girlfriend. Molinos de vida?

     Yo soy estudiante de la Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto de Mayaguez ("El Colegio") pero como ya he mencionado, soy del pueblo de Luquillo así que para llegar hasta mi universidad, tengo que recorrer la Isla entera, de esquina a esquina, cada fin de semana. Es un camino largo y tedioso, pero a la vez me brinda la oportunidad de disfrutar de una diversidad de paisajes inmensa, una diversidad que solo se podría conseguir es una islita como la mía, de 100 x 35 (o eso dicen por redondear!). Pero no se preocupen, no doy este viaje solo, siempre me acompaña la fiel cámara  Yo la llevo a donde quiero, le digo lo que quiero, y ella hace el resto por así decirlo. Ir con tan buena compañía me permite capturar momentos como este, de los famosos "Molinos de Santa Isabel". Tengo que decir que este es uno de mis paisajes favoritos en mi camino a Mayaguez, por lo imponente que resultan verse los molinos en el llano y el pensar de que están ahí para generar energía natural y renovable, algo que tanto necesita nuestro pequeño Puerto Rico. Pero también tengo que admitir que siempre que pienso en esto me entra la duda y la preocupación... Podrá el gobierno de Puerto Rico realmente ver el potencial de ir en este camino en busca de energía limpia y renovable y sacarle un verdadero provecho, o echaran a perder esta gran oportunidad después del sacrificio que se ha hecho en estas tierras para preparar este valle de molinos? Esa es la pregunta... Aun así no deja de encantarme esta foto que tome en uno de mis viajes de este a oeste en mi Puerto Rico. Espero también les guste!

    I am a student at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus ("El Colegio") but as I mentioned, I'm from the town of Luquillo so to get to my university, I have to drive the entire island, from corner to corner, each weekend. It is a long and tedious trip, but it also gives me the opportunity to enjoy a huge diversity of landscapes, a diversity that could only be founded in a small island like mine, 100 x 35 (or so they say!) . But don't worry, I'm not alone in this trip. The trusty camera is always with me! I'll take her where I want to, say what I want, and she does the rest so to speak. Going with such good company allows me to capture moments like this, of the famous "Molinos de Santa Isabel". I have to say this is one of my favorite landscapes on my way to Mayaguez. The mills look so impressive from the road in the plain and to think that they are there to generate natural and renewable energy which is so needed in our little Puerto Rico, is something that makes me look at it every single time. But I have to admit that whenever I think about it I get the doubt and worry ... Can the government of Puerto Rico really see the potential to go on this journey in search of clean and renewable energy and get a real advantage, or will all of this go to waste after the sacrifice that has been made in these lands to prepare this valley mills? That is the question ... But this shot I took on one of my travels from east to west in my Puerto Rico is still one of my favorite. I hope you like it as much as I do!

A little bit of nature!

       Amante de la naturaleza al fin, me encanta fotografiar todo lo que tenga vida!!! Considero a la naturaleza parte de mi ser, parte de mi familia, de mi circulo de amigos, parte de mi vida... Es por esto que siempre que estoy rodeado de ella, siento ese deseo de sacar mi camara y fotografiar todo lo que veo!! Como parte de eso, les dejo algunas fotos recientes relacionadas a esto. Algunas fueron tomas en mi hogar (Luquillo, PR), y otras en Fajardo, PR. Espero les gusten!

       As a nature lover that I am, I love photographing everything that has life! I consider the nature part of me, part of my family, of my circle of friends, part of my life ... That's why I always feel the urge to take my camera out and photograph everything I see when I'm surrounded by it ! As part of that, here I leave some of my recent photos related to it.
